M185 Firmware Installation instructions

If you are not familiar with MIDI Sysex then have a read of this helpful article.

The firmware is supplied in two files ‘M185_VxxxA.syx’ & ‘M185_VxxxB.syx’.
These are uploaded to the M185 via MIDI sysex.

You will need a computer with a MIDI connection, and also a Sysex capable software such as MIDI OX [ PC] or Sysex
Librarian [ MAC ]

Connect the MIDI cable from your computer to the supplied MIDI-TRS cable, and connect to the MIDI in on the M185.
Make sure the MIDI TRS switch setting on the back of the Panel PCB is set to the Type B [ away from the when using the supplied TRS MIDI
adapter cable.

Hold the RESET button whilst powering up the M185. The sequencer will indicate the 2 left-most red LEDs.

Please close all other software accessing MIDI, and disconnect  all other MIDI devices in your system.
Start your chosen Sysex software, selecting the correct MIDI output.
Chose the ‘A’ syx file, and select send.
Whilst transmitting the file, a 3rd, 4th, 5th etc Red LEDs should light up.
Eventually after any more LEDs light up, wait a few seconds then power off. [ Assembled units after Lit Green LEDs finish their sequencer of lighting up]

If the 3rd Red LED doesn't light, or nothing happens after, check the cable connections and your software settings are correct.

Now turn off the power to the sequencer for a few seconds.
Then again, hold the RESET button whilst powering up, and repeat the above action using the ‘B’ syx file.
Now turn off the power to the sequencer for a few seconds, and power up normally.
